During the first quarter of 2026, Vivo Healthcare Sebring ranked as the third largest nursing facility in Highlands County, a position it shared with another provider, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows. The facility tied with Oaks at Avon for this ranking.

Records indicate that Vivo Healthcare Sebring offered 104 beds, 16 fewer than the Highlands County average during the same period. The center assisted an average of 81.8 residents at that time.

The CMS rated Vivo Healthcare Sebring 3 out of 5 overall, below the Florida nursing home average of 3.3 for that period.

Lake Placid Health and Rehabilitation Center reported the highest bed count in the county at 180, while The Palms at Sebring Nursing and Rehabilitation ranked second, providing 120 beds.

Vivo Healthcare Sebring recorded no fines or penalties during the first quarter of 2026.

Highlands County was home to five for-profit nursing facilities during the period.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show that the nation’s older adult demographic continues to rise as numbers of younger age groups fall. From 2020 through 2024, the population age 65 and older increased by 13%, while the population under 18 dropped by 1.7%. The older adult population in the United States has risen sharply over the last century, climbing from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study projects that almost half in this age range—around 28 million people—are likely to need long-term services and supports, with over a third possibly requiring nursing home care at some point.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
