Florida Department of Transportation Announces Construction Project Notice beginning Feb 14, 2023 with improvements to US 98 from north of NW 80th Avenue to SR 70 in Okeechobee County

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT:

FDOT will begin work on February 14, 2023, to make improvements to US 98 from North of NW 80th Avenue to SR 70 in Okeechobee County. During construction, US 98 will be CLOSED for up to 10 days beginning the week of May 22, 2023, Local traffic will be permitted to access business within the project limits, which is approximately seven miles and is shown below.

PROJECT IMPROVEMENTS:

  •  Resurface US 98 from north NW 80th Avenue to SR 70 (US98)
  •  Reconstruct the roadway at the railroad tracks
  •  Improve and upgrade traffic signals and pedestrian signals at the intersection of US 98 and SR 70 and signals at the intersection of SR 98 and NW 30th Street
  •  Improve sidewalk
  •  Install signage and pavement markers
  •  Estimated construction cost is $8.2M

PROJECT SCHEDULE:

  •  Construction begins February 2023; estimated completion is fall 2023
  •  During construction there will be lane closures on US 98 from north of NW 80th
  • Avenue to SR 70
  •  US 98 will be CLOSED for 10 days (near the railroad tracks) beginning the week
  • of May 22, 2023; please follow detour signs
