You have to be a special kind of nasty to scam people, even more so if you are pretending to be a local preacher.

That is precisely what is happening to Pastor Loy Mershimer from our local Presbyterian Church. Today his parishioners started receiving the attached text message via Facebook.

It is a "cloned" account using a different phone number, but one would automatically feel trusting if their Pastor reached out to them.

DO NOT ANSWER THIS MESSAGE

We expect this will be the first of many other churches experiencing this type of scam.

So let's get the word out together; if you receive a text or message from your preacher, pastor, priest, deacon, etc., ignore it.

Please report it to Facebook and block the person immediately. Please share this and spread the word.

Thank you to the Pastor and concerned citizen that brought this to our attention.
