Hurricane Ian Recovery FEMA Assistance

FEMA has extended the application deadline for Hurricane Ian federal disaster assistance to Jan. 12, 2023.

The Highlands County Disaster Recovery Center is at the Bert J. Harris Jr. Agricultural Center, 4509 George Blvd., in Sebring. Hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

The DRC will close for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend from Thursday, Nov. 24 through Sunday, Nov. 27. It will reopen at its regular hours Monday, Nov. 28.

It is not necessary to visit a DRC to apply. Survivors can go online to disasterassistance.gov, download and use the FEMA mobile app or call 800-621-3362. The line is open every day from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern and help is available in most languages.

If you have insurance, you are encouraged to file a claim for damage to your home, personal property and vehicles before you apply for FEMA assistance. FEMA cannot duplicate other sources of assistance you may have received.
