*** Update Community Alert Cancelled  ***

As with all investigations, we appreciate everyone’s interactions, shares, and tips.

Investigations take time to compile information relevant to the actual circumstances, and at times stories are incomplete or distorted when reported by a second party.

Uniformed Patrol Officers located the van in question a little while ago and identified all parties involved.

With the help and clarification from the adult complainant on the scene, no child was being coaxed, nor did any inappropriate action occur.

Once the adult complaint realized the vehicle and “suspects” were someone, they were familiar with, and not in the area for negative reasons, it was reported back to us immediately.

We again thank everyone for their concerns and participation in getting the original story shared.

We will continue to issue community alerts and update our citizens when issues of concern like this arise to ensure your safety.

Thank you again, everyone.

(Original Post)

Attached is a similar vehicle to the one we are looking for - PLUS Tinted windows and shaded out (darkened) taillight and possibly headlight covers.

The Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office wants the community to be aware of a concerning call.

An older model black Chrysler van, in good condition, with tinted windows, was driven by a black male with a white male passenger.

They were reported attempting to coax several children into the van for a “ride to school.”

This vehicle was last seen in the Douglas Brown area of Okeechobee headed south on North E. 14th Ave., toward 70 East.

This incident occurred within the last 20 minutes. If you see the vehicle in the area of Okeechobee, please do not hesitate to contact the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office at 863-763-3117.
