August 26th is National Dog Day
K9s and their handlers are a special breed (pun intended). Sheriff Stephen, Captain Robert Coleman, and Lt. Jimmy Mills wanted to thank each handler on behalf of the command staff for their dedication and tireless efforts in protecting our community.
"People don't consider that when you become a K9 officer, it is like having a child introduced into your family; the responsibilities are many, and the attachment is often lifelong for the K9." Sheriff Noel E. Stephen said talking with the OCSO Handlers yesterday. "I cannot begin to thank you for the job you perform for our community, but we wanted to give you a small token to thank you for all that you do."
The Sheriff presented shirts that carry the handler's partners' names on the back, some with their retiring and new partners' names.
If you see one of our K9 teams out and about, take a moment to thank them for the job that they perform daily.
