Highlands County Board of County Commissioners, Government issued the following announcement on September 24.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT | 7:52 p.m. EDT Thursday, Sept. 23.

...A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of northwestern Highlands County through 830 P.m. EDT...

At 7:52 p.m. EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Sebring Regional Airport, or near Sebring. This storm was nearly stationary.

HAZARD...Winds in excess of 40 mph.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include...

Sebring, Sebring Regional Airport, Lake Josephine, Sebring Shores and Lorida.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.

Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
