ORANGE COUNTY, FL – Okeechobee County Commissioner Terry Burroughs was elected to the office of 2nd Vice President of the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) Executive Committee during the Association’s Annual Business meeting in Orange County.

"I am humbled to be elected by my peers to serve in this capacity. Being part of the FAC Executive Committee and representing Okeechobee County is one of the greatest honors I could ever hoped to achieved," stated Commissioner Burroughs.

As a new member of the FAC Executive Committee, Burroughs will play a key role in guiding the Association’s policy and initiatives.

“Commissioner Burroughs has been a long-term participant on policy committees, at FAC events, and during the Legislative Session, and his commitment to our local communities is widely recognized among his commission peers,” said FAC Executive Director, Ginger Delegal. “He has distinguished himself as an invaluable asset to FAC, and we are pleased to welcome him as our official 2nd Vice President.”

Burroughs joins newly installed FAC President, Wakulla County Commissioner Ralph Thomas; President-Elect, Seminole County Commissioner Lee Constantine; 1st Vice President, Charlotte County Commissioner, Bill Truex; and Immediate Past President, Palm Beach County Commissioner, Melissa McKinlay. The offices of President-Elect, 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President are elected annually.

The Association is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of one county commissioner from each state senate district (40); five executive officers; six county commissioners appointed at-large with no more than three of the six from counties with population of 75,000 or more; and the past presidents of FAC.

Founded in 1929, the Florida Association of Counties has represented the diverse interests of Florida’s counties, emphasizing the importance of protecting home rule – the concept that communities and their local leaders should make the decisions that impact their community. The Florida Association of Counties helps counties effectively serve and represent Floridians by strengthening and preserving county home rule through advocacy, education and collaboration.
